Eco-friendly Ganesh Idol Making Workshop - JES

25 Aug 2025 JES College of Commerce, Science & IT

Overview

Idol immersion during Ganesh Chaturthi creates significant environmental challenges. Most idols today are made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) and coated with synthetic paints containing harmful chemicals like lead and mercury. When immersed in lakes, rivers, or the sea, these materials do not dissolve easily and release toxins that pollute water bodies, harm aquatic life, and reduce oxygen levels. With an intention to address this issue and to develop skill and encourage talent amongst students, a workshop on eco-friendly Ganesh idol making was organised at JES College of Commerce, Science & IT for 70 students + 2 teachers. The workshop was conducted by Rtr. Shraddha Purohit and organised jointly by Rotaract Club of JES College Parivartan (RCJESCP). The students learnt the art of idol making and also could practice their hands at making these idols.
