Eco-friendly Ganesh Idol Making Workshop - GNEHS

25 Aug 2025 Guru Nanak English High School, Andheri East

Overview

Idol immersion during Ganesh Chaturthi creates significant environmental challenges. Most idols today are made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) and coated with synthetic paints containing harmful chemicals like lead and mercury. When immersed in lakes, rivers, or the sea, these materials do not dissolve easily and release toxins that pollute water bodies, harm aquatic life, and reduce oxygen levels. With an intention to address this issue and to develop skill and encourage talent amongst students, a workshop on eco-friendly Ganesh idol making was organised at Guru Nanak High School for 100 students (Class V & VI). The workshop was conducted by Rtr. Shraddha Purohit and organised jointly by Interact Club of Maruti Veers (ICMV), Interact Club of Guru Nanak Bravehearts (ICGNB) and Rotaract Club of JES College Parivartan (RCJESCP), alongwith RCMSEP. The students learnt the art of idol making and also could practice their hands at making these idols.
